Mahogany Moon
Mahogany Moon
This Is a new Pohaku Tenor size ukulele made out of genuine Honduran mahogany. The wood is well aged and well quarter-saw and this true mahogany makes excellent tenor instruments that have a well balanced tone, a wide dynamic range with ample volume and a healthy serving of overtones. And this instrument doesn’t disappoint. From first stringing it up it was sounding very energetic and with time this will grow into a real beast of an instrument. The wood is simple and understated with no figuring, just plain elegant and lively. It is a striking instrument in it’s simplicity and it has enough added accents to make it look beautiful. The sound hole rosette ring, the bridge accent, the edge binding, fret-markers and headstock inlay are all executed in bright maple. The moon is a mother of pearl inlay and the fingerboard is a dark and very hard birds eye maple. The scale length is 17”
The instrument is finished in a smooth lacquer and buffed to be so smooth and shiny. The back plate of the instrument is arched on both axis giving it a bowel shape which helps to project the sound waves out of the tone box and makes the ukulele comfortable to hold. Tuning is via planetary geared 4:1 ratio Gotoh brand tuners. Currently it is tuned high g but it is no problem to convert to the ever so popular these days low G tuning. Set-up and playability are easy and excellent allowing this ukulele to finger easily and play in tune.
The Girl on the Moon is a turn of the century motif I’d seen on old banjos which I cleaned up the artwork to make the girl anatomically correct and proportioned the art fit attractively onto my peg-head shape.
The instrument is lightweight at approximately 23 ounces. Overall its length is approximately 27”
The ukulele comes with a good quality hard shell case and is shipped in a sturdy shipping box in which the instrument is suspended for safe transport and it is re-useable so you can use it to ship off your old unwanted instrument in.
