This is another of my artistic ukuleles built out of Hawaiian Woods, with a Hawaiian Theme, for a Hawaiian Wood Art Show. Built after I created the Maine Woods and Water Ukulele I wanted to do something similar with the marine theme so I fashioned this instrument with an imposing Moray Eel posing as the bridge and I inlaid Oahu’s Diamond Head Lighthouse into the peghead of this Concert Size Ukulele.
The body of the instrument is made of Queensland Maple and its soundboard is made of the ancient Kauri wood I was fortunate enough to get a few pieces of. (Not from Hawaii but from New Zealand this wood was excavated from an ancient peat bog and is radio carbon dated to be from 30,000 to 50,000 years old!)
The woods on the rest of the instrument are all grown in Hawaii; Milo, Pheasantwood, Ohia, Tsugi Pine, Eucalyptus Robusta and a touch of Koa. The inlay is done in Mother of Pearl, Coral and ^Turquoise.
The instrument has all of the sweetness and precision and excellence of detail you’d expect of a Pohaku!
$950 with a case.
