This is another one of those ‘very decorated’ in the art-deco fashion ukuleles; a style I which I love to work in. A quilted Honduran mahogany makes up the tenor sized body into which I have inlaid a stripe of curly koa around its belt-line which matches up with the curly koa stripes I have inlaid down the shaft of the neck. Onto this I added my favorite art deco designs, motifs and appointments. The woods used in the various inlays are koa, mahogany, ebony and there is a spot of ivory (from old piano keys) used on the fret-markers. I especially like the little ebony ‘round’ at the bottom of the Rosewood fretboard.
As usual there are all the little and big things that make a Pohaku an extremely desirable instrument in design, workmanship and sound. I boast excellent fretwork, precise intonation, a smooth and glossy finish and in general, attention and excellence in every little detail.
This tenor with its Western Red Cedar soundboard combined with the mahogany body makes for a great fingerpickers instrument. Light and delicate touches ring out sure and strong with a nice sparkle and a commanding presence. It’s a good strummer’s instrument too.
This ukulele measures about 26” long and weighs approx. 21 ozs. Included is a custom Pohaku hard-shell case the price is $1500
