This is another unusual one of a kind Pohaku Ukulele. This instrument started life as a 'napkin sketch' last summer. I just had to try building one and to my delight it is a very sucessful instrument. I feared that the slanted frets would intefere with playing but they don't. They only take about :30 seconds to get used to and chords like D minor 6th and 7th which used to tangle me up are easier to play.
The body of the instrument is concert sized. The scale length is also concert. I used a pocket style neck attachment method which provides great upper fret access since the neck doesn't have a heel. Also the skewed neck placement allows the frets to be accessed like a cut-away can be. The finish is tinted lacquer. My pictures capture some reflection in the finish making the blue appear mottled which it isn't. The spruce top is braced with a modified four fan bracing scheme. The ukulele sounds exactly what you'd expect a good spruce instrument to sound like. Warm and rich with sustain. The instrument improperly fits into a tenor case. I could also have a padded 'gig-bag' case made for a hundred dollars with two weeks wait time.
This ukulele weighs approx. 18 ozs and is approx. 23" long.
Price: $1200 plus tax
