Concert with pickup

This is a new Pohaku concert size ukulele made of Koa wood with a built in active battery-less pickup system.
The ukulele is made of a reddish gold Koa from the Big Island of Hawaii. The wood boasts a rich tight tiger-eye curl and a great sound. The smooth Honduran neck  uses quality Grover 4-B friction tuners to keep you playing in tune and the East Indian Rosewood fingerboard is fretted with the smallest fretwire expertly set up for easy in-tune playing.
The instrument is handsomely edged with a wooden rope binding and finished in a smooth lacquer finish.
The ukulele measures about 24” long and as with all Pohaku concert instruments the back is arched on both of its axis for a great look, feel and sound.
The active pickup system consists of a Fishman under-saddle piezo element. I build the wings of my bridge saddle down to straddle and hide the ugly pickup element, a unique and nice detail which I pioneered. Instead of a battery to supply the needed voltage the active pre-amp design uses a NASA developed super capacitor to power it. Charged for one minute with the supplied plug in power supply (or in a pinch a 9V. battery) the amplifier gives you a full day of playing time on a single charge. An active pickup warms up the otherwise harsh piezo sound.
For years I’ve been using the Fishman active Matrix setup which uses a battery and sounds great. This setup has an almost identical sound quality without the 9V. battery. The weight of this instrument is only about 20 ozs. which is only about 3 ozs. heavier than my concert ukes without a pickup.
A case is included with this elegant and great sounding instrument.
