This is a new Pohaku Soprano size ukulele is made out of the oldest wood available, Ancient Kauri wood which is rescued from a Peat-Bog in the North Island of New Zealand.
The body is made of this very special Kauri wood and is matched with a Spruce soundboard that has some ‘Bear-Claw’ figuring which was reclaimed from an old piano.
As both of these woods were very lightweight I challenged myself into making a super-light-weight instrument and used Spanish Cedar for the neck and Peg-Head tuners. The end result is a sparky powerful full-size Soprano Ukulele that only weighs 10 ozs.!
It is finished with a thin and smooth sun-burst lacquer finish, plays very easily and is truly a unique little uke!
This Kauri wood currently being reclaimed in New Zealand has been radio carbon dated to be 30,000 to 50,000 years old and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The ukulele also comes in a fancy Pohaku custom hard-shell case.
